Union x Nike new collaborative sneaker “Cortez” with recycled materials, now revealing in 4 colors. ［DR1413-200 / DR1413-002]
The legendary LA-based boutique UNION, owned by Chris Gibbs, and Nike have collaborated to produce the Cortez SP sneaker in four colors, scheduled for release around summer 2022.
The basis for the leaked pair is the “Cortez” shoe, which was first introduced by Nike in 1972 and will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2022. The classic silhouette, developed by University of Oregon track and field coach and Nike founder Bill Bowerman, is a classic Nike sneaker known for being worn by Gump in the movie “Forrest Gump”.
This time, the upper is constructed with a bordered canvas fabric and suede overlay, with a “UN/LA” pith name on the eyestay. The double heel patch that rolls up has the FRONTMAN logo and NIKE logo that were used in the early days of the Union and have recently been revived, and includes sustainable elements such as a cork insole and a crater foam midsole with recycled material mixed in. It is decorated with a variety of details. Four classic colors are currently revealed, including tan/red, black/blue, and gray/yellow.
